At 18, I decided to move to either LA or New York. I knew New York. I loved New York, but I wanted something different. So, I chose LA. When I moved here from Texas I got a major culture shock. I learned that you only drive between 3pm to 7pm if you have 3 hours to kill. I learned that California was blessed with better weather than any other state. I learned that nice, genuine people exist; you just have to find them.
But, I always miss New York. I miss the fact that the city looks just like the pictures. I miss the fact walking down the street you feel like you're in the movie. I miss the air filled with constant inspiration and ambition to work hard. I miss how easily you can clear your head because the streets are louder than your thoughts.
New York is all the good and bad you hear, and so is LA. No place is better than another. They both have two totally different vibes. But, both are filled with a ton of great people and not so great people. Both are very lonely cities. Both are filled with talented, ambitious, hardworking people trying to create something they're proud of. Both cities can fill you with doubt, but both are the cities that can flourish your dreams.
"There is something in the New York air that makes sleep useless."
I may live in LA, but I will forever try to bring the different energy you feel in New York back with me. I think you need a little inspiration from both to push you and motivate you into where you want to be.
