Social media has become part of our daily life. We have access to everything right at our fingertips. With a social media heavy lifestyle, I'm afraid we are all forgetting to live. We see the world through an iphone. We are forgetting to live in the moment. We have traded letters and landlines for “likes.” And, our friends have become “followers.” We find ourselves re-imagining our lives, as we desire people to see them. This causes our depth of reality to become skewed. It is destroying our ability to critically think, reflect, and experience the world we live in. However, it is inevitable, and it doesn't necessarily have to be a negative thing.
Philosophy shouldn’t be limited to 140 characters. A sunset shouldn’t be seen through a screen. Imagination is bigger than the amount of followers you have. It is important to step away. How can inspiration be drawn from second-hand experiences?
HOMEWORK: I challenge you to step away. We need to create a line between true experience and our desire to communicate them. There is nothing wrong with our experiencing things and our desire to share it with others, but it is important to be in the moment. Get out, and LIVE.
