Hi fellow internet surfers. My name is Jillian, and I like to call myself a professional food consumer. By no means do I actually eat as a career (I work in music IRL) but I AM extremely passionate about food. I’ve made it my mission to try any and all restaurants recommended to me, and I wanted to share some of my favorites (new and old) with you!
1. Sweetfin Poké (Santa Monica)
I wasn’t going to make this list in any specific order, but honestly Sweetfin is officially my all-time favorite place to eat. Poké has become extremely popular over the past year or two, and after trying a bunch of different locations, this place has definitely always come out on top. I’m a sushi addict, so when I’m in the mood for a less expensive alternative, Sweetfin is my go-to. ALWAYS fresh, and the portions are awesome. TRUST ME. If you like poké, this is the spot for you.
2. Poppy + Rose (Downtown LA)
If you’re a new LA resident I’m sure you’ve discovered that Sunday brunch is an essential part of the week. If you’re an OG LA resident, then I’m sure you can back me up on this one. After trying many different brunch places, I stumbled upon this little gem. Poppy + Rose is located in the heart of the Flower District in DTLA, and has one of the best Eggs Benedict I’ve ever had (cue Drake’s “Best I Ever Had” here). They also have some kickass chicken + waffles…YUP thank me later.
3. Ink Sack (West Hollywood & Hollywood)
I am ALL about a good sandwich. So when I found this amazing little sandwich shop, I died and went to sando heaven. Not only are the sandwiches $8 and under, but they’re ridiculously good. My personal fav is the “cold fried chicken” (pictured below) coming in at a whopping $5.50! If you’re not a chicken fan, don’t worry, their options are endless! Don’t forget to grab one of their delicious organic milkshakes too!
4. Zinque (West Hollywood)
If you follow KayKay (Spice) on her personal socials, I’m sure you’ve seen this one mentioned a lot! Once you try it, I promise you’ll understand. Not only is Zinque’s outdoor dining ambiance beautiful, but their food is low-key addicting. Their tartines are out of this world, and so perfect to share! I get the tomato/avocado tartine every time I go and I don’t think I’ll ever get sick of it. The obsession is real people.
5. Granville (Studio City & Burbank & Glendale)
Please just look at the pizza pictured below and TRY not to have major love eyes. I’ve tried a number of things on Granville’s menu, and with every new thing I try it’s harder and harder to decide on a favorite. From their house-made hummus, to their grilled cheese dippers, to their incredible grilled salmon, there really is something for everyone. PLUS the restaurant itself is just plain beautiful. It’s a must try!
6. Yeastie Boys Bagel Truck (Check @yeastieboysbagels for location in LA)
I’d like you all to meet the best bagels in Los Angeles. I wake up every morning craving these bad boys! Their lox is SO fresh, and their selection of schmear (cream cheese) is so great that it’s unheard of. The picture above should say enough, but if you still don’t believe me, check out their Instagram for more convincing proof. You know I’m all about a food with a great social presence 😉
7. Kiwami by Katsuya (Studio City)
Remember how I said I was obsessed with sushi? Well...let’s talk about Kiwami. I had heard from multiple people about their delicious (and affordable!!!!) lunch menu, and I couldn’t refuse. Below is the “Kiwami Tray” lunch special aka heaven on earth. If I’m ever craving sushi for lunch and I’m in the area I will 99.9% of the time end up here.
8. Sweetgreen (West Hollywood & Santa Monica)
You would think after eating this for 3 days in a row I would be tired of it, but NOPE. I never thought I’d be the type of person to be addicted to a salad restaurant but here I am! Sweetgreen is a chipotle-styled restaurant where you can pick from the freshest ingredients to create your perfect salad. You can also pick from their amazing assortment of salad creations (my favorite is the Hollywood Bowl). In a rush and need a quick lunch or dinner? SG has made it SO easy to order online or on their app, and your fresh salad will be ready to pick up as soon as you arrive! I. Love. This. Place.
9. Gracias Madre (West Hollywood)
I LOVE Mexican food, so when someone told me about this vegan Mexican restaurant I was a little unsure. LO AND BEHOLD Gracias Madre became one of my favorites as soon as I tried it. Their chips and guac are out of this world, and their snow cone style cocktail is a perfect sweet addiction to your meal. If you haven’t been here yet, the time is now!
10. Blu Jam Cafe (Sherman Oaks & Hollywood)
This place had me at “breakfast all day” and it most definitely did not let me down. When someone mentions breakfast or brunch, Blu Jam is always one of the first places to come to mind. Their famous “Crunchy French Toast” (pictured below) is mouthwatering. Literally my mouth is watering just looking at the picture, so WAIT until you try it. You’re welcome in advance!
